Everyone Still Loves New York: As crime rates fall and new developments
rise, the 24-hour city is now family friendly.
Reported by Christopher Grimes
Organizer: Even the most expensive homes in New York are small by
suburban - or even London - standards. So it's important to use the space well, even
if that means seeking professional help. At Cross It Off Your List, the staff is
happy to make sense of your messy closet, arrange your move to a new house or even
return an unwanted gift. "Basically, we organize people's lives," says Linda
Rothschild, chief executive.
Aside from helping clients to get rid of excess items before a move, Cross It Off
Your List will also liaise with painters, architects and even the company to make
sure the new home is ready. They also unpack. "I've had lots of people go on vacation
or off to the beach and when they come back it's all done," Rothschild says.
The group's "lifestyle management" services include running errands and dealing with
household problems - a step beyond traditional concierge services, which typically
offer help with restaurant reservations or theatre tickets. "We never know what the
next phone call with bring," Rothschild says. "As long as it's legal and ethical, we
can do it."
